Lakers News: 76ers’ Joel Embiid Gives Shoutout To Kobe Bryant After 70-Point Performance –

Jan. 22 marked the 18th anniversary of the late, great Kobe Bryant's 81-point effort for the Los Angeles Lakers versus the Toronto Raptors.

Bryant has the second-highest scoring game in NBA history and has stood the test of time thus far, despite the league's heightened offensive talent.

However, it appeared that many players wanted to perform well on this anniversary,

particularly Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid and Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns

On Monday night, both showed off their incredible scoring abilities, and many believed Bryant's record was jeopardized. Embiid was the closest of the two,

scoring 70 points and 18 rebounds while shooting 24-for-41 from the field and 21-for-23 from the line.

After his insane performance, Embiid expressed his respects to Bryant, who encouraged the big man to start playing basketball, as he did with people all around the world, via NBA:

Even though I started late, Kobe was always my guy. He's the reason I started playing basketball.
