Daily morning smoothie recipe for a gastroenterologist and his family using 4 ingredients.

A gut-health doctor offered his family's favorite breakfast, a four-ingredient smoothie.

Doctor Will Bulsiewicz, a gastroenterologist, posted the smoothie recipe on Instagram: "We all love easy, quick options, and I have a simple, go-to daily breakfast that gets the job done."

He captioned his post: "Smoothies help youngsters eat more fruits and veggies. Our family enjoys to 'cheers' during breakfast before starting the day."

4-ingredient smoothie recipe – Frozen blueberries. – Bananas. – Broccoli sprouts. – Soy milk.

Dietitian Nichola Ludlam-Raine told Business Insider that nutritious smoothies should have lipids, protein, and fiber. She cautioned against fruit-only smoothies, which can cause blood sugar drops. These may impair focus and energy in healthy adults without diabetes.

Ludlam-Raine suggested smoothies with a tiny banana, a handful of berries, milk or a nondairy option, and greens. She suggested adding Greek yogurt, nut butter, oats, or protein powder for flavor and minerals.

"These combined help to slow down the release of the energy from the blended fruit," stated Ludlam-Raine.

Soy milk and broccoli sprouts give protein and greens in Bulsiewicz's smoothie, while almonds and seeds add healthy fats.
